Since the start of our Big Lottery funded project we have been working with Salford University to develop a 3 year academic study into the work of Garden Needs.
This study will provide us with academic reviewed work on how Garden Needs works and how it benefits those who engage with the garden centre.
We are looking to carry out interviews (informal chats) with anyone past or present that has spent time at Garden Needs. The chat will be with Karen, Julie or Simon and will be recorded. It will be a discussion about what worked and what didn’t, benefits felt, skills learned, friends made, other services accessed. It is important to record the chat so that we can listen back to get all the details of what is being said so that we don’t miss anything important. The information provided will be used in the report and on Garden Needs promotional material.
So far we have had 4 of our volunteers participate and the stories told have been powerful in the changes that have occurred in people’s life with the support of Garden Needs. More time slots for chats will come up over the next 3 years with bigger celebration events where we can get large groups together to do a more interactive review. The Volunteers enjoyed the process and are looking forward to reading the results when published. Some of the comments that came out for the chats were:
- Garden Needs is a place for everyone and where everyone has a place
- I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for Garden Needs
- Best little corner in Salford
It is fantastic to be working with Salford University on this study as we benefit from their great reputation in this type of study, and continues the great, supportive partnership we have with them.
